Samurai (lit. one who serves) was a classification of highly trained military men whom swore loyalty to another (mostly there feudal lord or emperor). Trained in the use of the katana they were elite warriors whose power waxed and waned all throughout Japans history. From humble beginnings as barbaric warriors and peasants from the hill to militaristic political controllers to outcast by their own kind they have held fast to a code of honor known by many names most commonly referred to as bushido (the way of the warrior)
